Xbox One TV record function coming later this year

Recording live TV has gotten to the point now where it's a wonder anyone still buys adverts between programs, as I'm pretty sure everyone fast forwards through them these days. Still, you would have expected with Microsoft banging on about "TV" when it launched the Xbox One, that it would give you the ability to do that itself, but for now it just can't.

That won't be the case later this year though, as Microsoft is adding a DVR function to its flagship console. This will replace current Windows Media Center systems after the launch of Windows 10, as the ageing entertainment platform is being retired due to decreased usage.

This is likely to be one of many changes when the new OS is released, as Microsoft has made it clear that its Xbox One and PC platforms would evolve together to be more inclusive of one another, potentially bringing the same games to both platforms - the only real difference being where you play it, since controllers will be interchangeable to a point.

It's not clear from Polygon's report, when exactly we can expect these upgrades and tweaks to take place, but likely they'll come along with the new OS, bringing with them the new TV recording feature, though those with a particular penchant for recording HD streams, may need to consider upgrading their Xbox's internal hard drive, since it's hardly a monster.
