Xbox Chief Is Against The Idea Of Xbox One And Half

Details are still scarce, but it is now almost certain that Sony is working of some sort of a PlayStation 4 upgrade with the codename PlayStation 4.5. Naturally, those news led to speculations about whether Microsoft intends to follow suit and release a similar interim performance upgrade for Xbox One.

Speaking to GameSpot, Xbox chief Phil Spencer dismissed this idea, arguing that it would fragment the console's user base.

"I'm not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers," said Phil Spencer before clarifying that he doesn't have insider knowledge about Sony' plans for PlayStation 4, but "For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it's reliable, the servers are doing well. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people--an upgrade."

Interestingly enough, the very same Phil Spencer took the stage at a media event in San Francisco last month where he told the press that Microsoft plans to "blur the lines between Xbox One and PC" in many ways including the release of hardware upgrades for Xbox One.
