VU Confirms H-L 2 Top MegaGame of 2004

Just one day after Half-Life 2 was revealed as the Top MegaGame of 2004, Vivendi Universal Games has come to confirm that Valve's game was the true gamers choice for 2004.

According to figures released by VU Games today not only did Half-Life 2 not suffer due to the various release, distribution and activation issues but managed to reach almost 1.7 million retail sales. According to the publisher the game has sold very well in the U.S. and Europe but the company says it expects it to continue to do very well in 2005, hoping of a repeat of the Half-Life phenomenon which saw the original game in the franchise selling well for years following its release.

The figures released by VU Games do not include any Steam sales and the entire industry is holding its breath waiting for Valve to release some information. Valve is likely to treat Steam figures as sensitive information however, as strong sales may alienate publishers while weak sales will mean the company will lose face. Any amount of Steam sales however, will only compliment the 1.7 million figure and the coveted creator it seems, has done it again, and is a worthy winner of the gamer vote and the Top MegaGame of 2004 honor.
