Ubisoft Architect: Sony And Microsoft Pressure Us To Lower PC Frame Rate

In a school presentation, a Ubisoft game architect revealed that Microsoft and Sony are pressuring game developers to lock their PC games to 30 FPS in order not to surpass consoles.

The presentation was attended by redditer imois who relayed other redditers' questions to the Ubisoft team then summed up their answers.

Ubisoft's team, which comprised a game architect, an online programmer and an HR representative, revealed that console makers refused to certify games that run at 60 FPS until developers added more eye candy at the cost of falling down to 30 FPS. Moreover, it was implied that Microsoft pressured development teams to make the PC version no better than the console one.

"The Game Architect said that they aim for 60 fps but due to "limitations", they have to settle for 30 fps in recent games. He then implied that console makers are pressuring them into doing the same thing on PC.

…He only implied that there were hardware limitations all over the place. And his wink when he told me that 24fps was all we needed confirmed that."
