Tomb Raider reboot takes on new director

Although far from the power-house it once was, the Tomb Raider brand is still a well recognised one and it has some mainstream crossover appeal as well, which is why the franchise is being rebooted in movie form following the successful reboot of the video game franchise a couple of years ago.

Although hardly ready to go yet, it does look like the film project has secured a director in the form of Roar Uthaug (as per the Hollywood Reporter), who while pretty much unknown to western audiences, previously directed foreign films like Cold Prey and The Wave, receiving reasonable acclaim for them.

There are also rumors of the co-writer of Transformers 5, Geneva Robertson-Dworet signing on to the film, though that is unconfirmed at this time, with negotiations still ongoing.

Not exactly a star-studded crew, but then the original movies weren't brimming with directorial talent, even if they were a bit more well known than these guys. It will likely take the reveal of the lead actress playing Lara and some of the supporting cast before we'll know how seriously this new take on the franchise is being taken.

Who would you like to play the new Lara?
