Titanfall's DLC will be free forever

News hit recently that the Titanfall DLC released over the past year would be free for those that don't have it yet. Chances are this brought a few pilots back to the game to get their parkour on in some other various townships and frontier landscapes, but it's not something that has to happen overnight, as this is no timed release. As confirmed by the game's official Twitter account, Titanfall DLC content that is already out there will be free for anyone that buys the game in the future too.

Apart from trying to encourage players to come back to the flash-in-the-pan FPS, Respawn is also thought to be considering opting for a new model of DLC for the game's sequel, which is known to be in development. Although Evolve hasn't been anywhere near the super success that it was hoped to be - with the peak players already falling off to just a few thousand at a time from almost 30k when it was released - it has pioneered a new method of DLC after release, whereby maps and modes are free, but extra characters to play as and visual content will cost you.

Although Evolve had a lot of problems with too much day-one DLC, this method of giving everyone access to maps and modes means that there is no segregation within the community. You don't have one set of players gaming on one set of maps and another on another. That means that servers and games stay populated for longer, keeping the game alive longer.

At least in theory. We'll need to see how that pans out with Evolve.
