Nearly three years after THQ went bankrupt, publisher Nordic Games is reviving the once-revered brand by rebranding itself to THQ Nordic.
THQ went bankrupt in 2013 and was forced to auction off all its intellectual properties and to liquidate all its assets in order to pay its debts. Nordic Games bought several THQ franchises including Darksiders, Red Faction, Destroy All Humans!, Stuntman and MX vs. ATV. Later on, the company announced that it has bought the rights to the THQ name so that it would be able to sell games under that brand.
Back in 2014 Nordic Games said that it may publish some games under the THQ brand. Fast forward to today, the company has 23 games in active projects, the majority of which are based on THQ franchises. The company decided it's the right time to bring the THQ brand front and center.
"Those key brands will continue to shape our business in a meaningful way going forward, and THQ Nordic represents a core approach of doing much more than 'owning' a highly competitive portfolio of IPs," said THQ Nordic in a press release.
"Whilst we take great pride in our Swedish roots and accomplished a great deal under the Nordic Games masthead, we decided it was time to incorporate the THQ name."
