THQ Nordic just bought the Timesplitters franchise

One of the most beloved first-person shooters from the early '00s could be making a comeback, as THQ Nordic has acquired the Timesplitters license. It also grabbed Second Sight, but that doesn't really compare right? Timesplitters!

The Timesplitters series featured several games across several platforms. Most notably though, Timesplitters 1 and 2 debuted on the PS2, with the latter title showing up on the original Xbox and Gamecube too. Both games were very well received, especially the second, praised for their use of unique environments, varied weaponry, and time-bending storyline.

Although other attempts have been made to revive the series over the years, nothing quite captured the same love from fans as the original two, but THQ Nordic -- formerly Nordic Games -- now stands poised to take advantage of the beloved franchise.

It acquired Timesplitters and Second Sight as part of a purchase of the developer that owns them. Free Radical, formerly a Crytek studio renamed Crytek UK, is now called Deep Silver Dambuster and resides under the THQ Nordic banner alongside a number of other studios.

None of this is a guarantee that a Timesplitters game is being made or is going to be made in the future, but THQ Nordic's acquisition of the company is an intriguing one. The last thing Free Radical did was make the DLC for Homefront: The Revolution, so it may have something up its sleeve.
