Test your endurance in GRID: Autosport trailer

Endurance auto races are some of the most mentally and physically challenging hardships in all of sports, so it's no surprise that they're featuring in GRID: Autosport, the upcoming sequel to Race Driver: GRID, coming from Codemasters later this year. We even get a glimpse of what this gameplay might be like in the latest trailer.

Its description sets the scene:

"It's the dead of night and the illumination of the starting straight fades into the background, track lighting is at a minimum and the headlights from your competitors shine into the night. The brake lights in front appear, a set of red eyes staring your headlights down. Then they vanish. The car in front runs wide and finds itself in the gravel runoff, you're in first place and now you're all alone."

Interspersed between footage of the game itself are professional racers talking about the science of endurance racing. You have to be fast they say, which shouldn't come as a surprise to everyone, but the more notable part is that racing steady is perhaps more important. You can't push the car to its limits constantly, or the brakes or the tyres will go and you have to make it to the end of the race if you want to finish anywhere, let alone first.

The cars get a nod too from several drivers, suggesting that they're not tuned like Formula 1 racers, but are much more like real world cars. While of course they feature enormous rear spoilers across the board, the drivers at least believe that these are the kinds of cars people want to actually own, making them all the more exciting to race in and watch.

GRID: Autosport is set for release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on June 24th in North America and 27th in Europe.
