The creator of the massively popular mobile title, Clash of Clans, SuperCell, has been bought up by Chinese internet gaming giant, Tencent. Tencent is also a majority holder in Riot Games, the maker of League of Legends and many other gaming and social networking properties.
SuperCell is currently owned by Japanese firm SoftBank Group Corp, but it will be handing over 84.3 percent controlling stake in the company. If the deal goes through to completion, this will be the largest acquisition of any game developer to date, even trumping Activision's buyout of Candy Crush maker, King.
SuperCell is also the company behind hugely successful Clash Royale and a number of other games, which helped it earn cost to $780 million in 2015 alone. While it might take Tencent a while to make back its money on earnings like that, this is a huge addition to its revenue stream that will continue to earn it millions and millions for years to come.
Tencent has promised that SuperCell's 190 employees will all stay on and that the company will retain its independence.
