This weekend saw DreamHack Winter, the world's biggest LAN party take place, with more than 22,000 gamers all bringing their PC's to JÖNKÖPING, SWEDEN, to take part. However also on the cards were some of the year's biggest Esports tournaments, including a big CS:GO championship.
But as is becoming more common in Esports, part of the contest was marred by controversy, as international team FNATIC, were found to be using a tactic that while legitimate, was deemed invalid by Dreamhack organisers. It involves standing on the head of a fellow player to gain an unfair height advantage and see over large sections of a certain map (Overpass).
While the organisers initially called for the match too be re-fought, ultimately FNATIC pulled out and forfeited the matchup, sending their opponents, LDLC through to the next round.
Funnily enough, it was LDLC that finally took the championship cup home along with all the prize money ($100,000), beating out the favourites, Ninjas in Pyjamas.
"We’d like to thank all the teams, everyone at DreamHack, and most of all the Counter-Strike community for making this tournament possible," said the organisers in the wake of the event.
