After years of teases, months of hints, and a few screenshots, the new Steam library is finally here to try out and you can be one of the first to do so if you sign up for it. Designed to make it easy to decide what to play and give you more information about the games you own, the Steam library update is opt-in for now, but will likely role out to the wider user base once it's gone through some extensive public testing.
The update overhauls the look, feel, and operation of your Steam library. It makes the library far more colorful, ditching the collections of Workshop and DLC sections of the existing library, as well as the large areas of empty space which so categorize it. Instead you'll have a selection of games that you've played recently, all displayed with gorgeous poster-like cover art. There's also a collection of games that your friends have been playing recently, and ones that have been updated with new content.
Other categories will also appear depending on date, time of day, and your own preferences. These collections can be generated for you or customized yourself, letting you find great games to play with friends, at night, or when you're in the mood for some random killing.
Individual game pages have also been given an overhaul, with a greater focus placed on updates and recent events, to help you see what it is about them that might have changed since last you booted them up. There's also an easy access menu for your own achievements and trophies, as PCGamesN points out, and similarly quick and intuitive access to the Workshop for modding purposes.
If you want to try out the new beta yourself, all you need do is opt-in to the latest Steam beta. You can do so in the Settings menu.
