Steam Is Getting Native Support For PS4 DualShock 4 Controller

Valve will soon add native support for DualShock 4 to its famous PC gaming platform, Steam.

"Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it's exactly the same as a Steam Controller. Not only is it a really nice, high quality controller, but it's also got a gyro and a touchpad," Valve's Jeff Bellinghausen explained to Gamasutra. "Existing native support for the PS4 controller on the PC is a bit weak; in this case Steam itself is communicating directly with the device so everything that's nice and reliable."

It is currently possible to use Dualshock 4 controller on PC using third party tools such as DS4Windows, however Steam's native support - in addition to the new DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor - will make using the controller a true plug-and-play experience. It also means that players will get to make the most of the controller's capabilities including the touchpad and gyro in all games.

Valve plans to support additional controller models later on, but the company didn't share any devices or dates for those yet.
