Star Citizen crowd funding hits $100 million

Star Citizen continues to break down barriers as the most crowd funded game ever, now having surpassed $100 million in pre-order sales. That comes from the game itself and all its hundreds of potential extras, including physical merdhandise, in-game items and perhaps most importantly, in-game ships and perks for them.

Some of them are very expensive, but with the average backer pledge now reaching $100 for the game, clearly not everyone is bothered by the cost involved.

To celebrate reaching such a historic milestone, the developer, Cloud Imperium, has released the second Alpha for the game, this time combining many of its seperate modules into one. No longer will gamers have to load up a separate piece of software to shoot each other, and another for flying around.

Now players can launch the singular Alpha, run around their space station, climb into their space craft, shoot each other (in space), EVA and continue shooting each other, then get back in, land at a space station, the planet Crusader or one of its three moons and continue shooting each other there too.

All of it without a single loading screen or transition. You can have a dogfight in the atmosphere as much as out of it and have the battles within a space ship or no. It's very versatile.

There are a few bugs, but Cloud Imperium is working dilligently to fix them up and there's lots more features to enjoy.

You will need to be a backer though. How much have you put down on star Citizen?
