Spotify may be set to make its own hardware

Streaming music service, Spotify, may be about to start making its own hardware -- if job listings prove to be any indication. The company is currently looking for people to work as "Operations Manager - Hardware Product," "Product Manager - Hardware Production and Engineering," "Product Analyst - Hardware Products," and "Senior Product Manager - Hardware Production," (as per Ars).

One of the job listings states quite unequivocally that Spotify is making some sort of hardware device, but what kind? While we don't know specifically, it seems like there might be multiple types. All of them will be related to music, so its possible that Spotify will put out its own MP3 player, but that seems a little antiquated.

More likely is some sort of smart speaker device with Spotify built into it. Perhaps some sort of Alexa powered jukebox for the modern era. That would make sense, since one of the job listings talks about "connected hardware," though that could mean anything from a speaker, to a smartwatch, to wireless headphones.

Other hints at Spotify hardware that have appeared in the past include a potential smartwatch device, so it's possible we're looking at a wrist-mounted Spotify device somehow. That would mean some sort of wireless headphone system too though.

It's an interesting idea for Spotify to enter the hardware market. Although a connected speaker system would be great for music listening, when the Spotify app is supported by existing smart home hubs, would there be much point to it? Likewise with a smartwatch.
