Splatoon 2 tops U.S. game sales charts

This month isn't the biggest for new game sales, but that doesn't mean Splatoon 2 taking the top spot isn't impressive. The Nintendo Switch exclusive beat out popular titles like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remastering, which has been tearing up the U.S. charts in its own right very recently. Splatoon 2 is a full priced, $60 game too.

The stats Eurogamer is touting come from the month of July and show that amazingly, Grand Theft Auto V is still up there as one of the most popular games for new sales, coming in third overall. It beat out the likes of Final Fnatasy XII: The Zodiac Age and another Switch exclusive, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Even old games with significant existing followings like Minecraft are still selling well. In July it was the 14th most popular game purchase in the U.S., followed by games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1 and even Mass Effect: Andromeda, those poor fools.

Tekken 7 has taken a big dip in sales in recent weeks though. It only just edged on to the chart in 20th place, behind just about every other popular title right now. Here's the full list of games ranked by sales in U.S. dollars during July:
