Spintires pulled from Steam until game-breaking bug is fixed

Spintires, a game about getting your truck out of quagmires, has been pulled from Steam following a time-bomb like update that was enabled without anyone being connected to the internet. It's begun causing a number of bugs, including crashing the entire game when people attempt to play.

In response, the publisher has temporarily pulled the game from Steam, in order to get it fixed up as anyone buying new right now would find themselves unable to play, through no fault of their own.

The reason such a (seemingly) deliberate buggy update was made to the game, is just the latest part in a long saga of back and forth problems between the original developer of the game, Pavel Zagrebelnyj and the publisher Oovee. Zagrebelnyj has complained for some time that Oovee wasn't paying him his dues, or allowing him to update the game as requested.

As the relationship soured further, it sounds like (as per RPS) that Zgrebelnyj may have deliberately sabotaged his own game to try and gain a foothold in arguments with the publisher.

Moving forward, the publisher is said to be working on a fix, but there is a community solution for now. There's no guarantee it won't further break your game, so try it at your peril, but here it is.
