Arduino developer Martin Raynsford has created a real-life space invaders where players get to burn the invaders with high-powered laser.

After 4 months of planning and 5 days implementation, Raynsford modified an industrial 80W laser cutter machine to act as the project foundation. He then used a stepper motor and an Arduino board to make the invaders move and to allow players to control the laser gun (a.k.a. the laser cutter) through PC.

The Invaders are made of paper so the laser is able to easily set them on fire. The 4 shields, normally used to hide from the Invaders weapons, are mounted directly to the X axis. They are made from plastazote foam, so they can withstand the first blast from the laser cutter but then a hole appears in them and you can shoot the Invaders anyway.
