Report: Microsoft To Turn Retail Xbox Ones To Dev Kits In May

Sources familiar with Microsoft has told The Verge that the company is following a roadmap to gradually open up Xbox One over the next few months.

Apparently, Microsoft will release an Xbox One firmware sometime in May to allow retail units to act as Dev Kits; thus allowing any interested developer to freely create apps and games on the console. Even more, developers will be able to test their beta applications with the community.

The Verge's sources also believe that Microsoft will allow apps to run in the background, allowing applications such as music players to keep the music on while playing games.

The Verge expects Microsoft to share its plans at the Build developer conference in April.
