Rebellion announces Evil Genius 2 that's not free to play

Base building, nefarious management simulator, Evil Genius, is finally getting a sequel nearly 13 years after the release of the original game. Having acquired the license for the franchise in 2006, Rebellion Developments, previously known for the Sniper Elite and Aliens vs Predator series of games, stresses in its announcement, that this is a full-game that will not be free to play, like its previous Facebook App iterations, Evil Genius WMD and Evil Genius Online.

Announced in a video by Rebellion CEO, Jason Kingsley, Evil Genius 2 has been in full development since Q2 2017, so while it isn't just getting started, it's not far beyond that point. Still, Rebellion has clearly been discussing it for some time, as it has quite a clear vision for the game.

It will be built on Rebellion's in-house Asura engine, the first real-time strategy game to do so and will very much be a brand new game. Rebellion makes it clear that this will not be anything like a remaster of the original, so we can expect new features, new ways to play and a much more contemporary design.

Rebellion admits that it's actually been trying to make Evil Genius for years. It originally looked at crowdfunding the game a few years ago after struggling with securing a publisher, but now that it's moved into publishing its own games, it is keen to take the franchise by the horns and wrestle another game out of it.

It's going to be some time before we see Evil Genius 2 available to play or even get our first look at it. But know that Rebellion is working on it and it will keep us informed of its progress.
