PS4 Pro Boost Mode slightly improves Witcher 3, Dark Souls

The Pro version of the PlayStation 4 has been out in the wild for a while now and it supports the newly released Boost Mode, which arrived as part of the PS4's 4.5 firmware update. Although it was designed more for newer games to take advantage of, there are some older titles which it also helped improve.

In the latest batch of tests by Digital Foundry, Bloodborne, Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight have all seen some benefit from the use of Boost Mode, though some more than others.

Bloodborne's frame pacing problem isn't solved by Boost Mode unfortunately, but what it does fix are the irritating frame rate dips. The game won't ever break out of 30 FPS we're afraid, but it shouldn't dip much below it if you enable Boost Mode before playing.

Dark Souls 3 is much the same, with no really discernible difference, but there are some slight improvements again to frame rate stability. Instead of seeing the frame rate dip to 25 or so when the action gets heavy, it stays for the most part around 30 with boost mode enabled.

There are bigger improvements in Dark Souls 2 at least, with Digital Foundry reporting a solid 60 FPS throughout, which was much less common before.

Other tested games that showed some improvements include Witcher 3, The Evil Within, Oddworld New n' Tasty and Until Dawn, though once again, none saw massive improvements, but there were some slight boosts across the board.
