PS3 U.K. Sales Drop by 82 Per Cent

Now in its second week of availability in Europe, the PS3 console has offered Sony a mixed bag of results with the next-generation hardware breaking records in its first two days of release only to then, dramatically, lose ground.

According to Chart Track, the UK's sales tracking service, Sony's console sold 165,000 units in its first two days of availability, making it the fastest selling console in UK history. Chart Track coverage reaches approximately 90 per cent of the U.K. market.

Unfortunately for Sony, sales did not continue at the same pace and a Chart Track spokesperson has stated, Yes, sales of PS3 hardware have dropped by 82 per cent. Chart Track also played down the importance of the sales figures for the first two days claiming that they did not wish to reveal those figures but that interest was so great that they could no longer keep, said figures, a secret.

Another piece of U.K. based bad news for Sony came from the sales figures for its top selling title, Resistance Fall of Man. The hit PS3 game saw its U.K. sales drop by 60 per cent, according to the official U.K. sales charts.

Sony has yet to comment on this news although it is unlikely that the consumer electronics giant will accept the validity of these figures.
