Praey For the Gods gives new take on SoC formula

Whether you look at Dark Souls or the Monster Hunter series, the idea of battling impossibly enormous beasts of the land, air, and sea is a genre that's become increasingly popular in recent years. Instead of walking through hundreds of enemies with little to no effort, games built around boss monster encounters are proving to be a much more intriguing use of gamers' time. But those sorts of crafting and rinse-repeat games aren't the only way to do it.

Shadow of the Colossus was a unique take on that massive-monster genre by blending puzzles with unique, one-off boss fights that were taxing, challenging, and most importantly had a dramatic impact on the game's story. Praey for the Gods looks to be a game right out of that niche genre and it's shaping up to be a beautiful, powerful title.

New gameplay footage from Pax West shows the kind of monstrous creatures you'll be facing off against should you pick up the game, and it blends Dark Souls-esque characters with the stupendously large boss battles of Shadow of the Colossus, with some clever puzzle solving, difficult combat and some of the most beautiful environmental effects we've ever seen.

It's your task to figure out how to stop the seemingly never-ending winter of the land and it looks like it will be quite the challenge, no matter how you approach it.

Praey for the Gods is still in development and has no slated release date at this time.
