Payday 2 is getting VR support in 2017

Starbreeze, the company that bought the right to Overkill Software's Payday franchise last year, has announced that Payday 2 is going to receive a VR conversion at some point in 2017. Better yet, the new version of the game will allow crossplay with those running the game on 2D monitors, much like the recent rerelease of Serious Sam and its various incarnations.

Although there has been some concern among fans about how fair the cross-platform play will be, ultimately it's probably necessary to make sure that headset owners have someone to play with, as the community of VR hardware owners is still relatively small compared to PC gaming in general.

That goes doubly so when you factor in that the game is only being slated for the HTC Vive for now. While Oculus Rift support seems likely in the future, to begin with only the SteamVR capable hardware will be able to run the new version of the four-year-old game.

How do you think the game is shaping up? The VR trailer sure makes it look exciting.
