Paladins is the next game to debut a Battle Royale mode

More and more games developers are jumping on the battle royale bandwagon after the monumental success of both Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and the latest to do so is Hi-Rez studios, the developer of both STRIFE and Paladins. The hero-based multiplayer shooter title has a brand new game mode called Realm Royale and it looks very much like Fortnite, but with a few tweaks.

The game mode isn't entirely detailed yet, but we do know a few bits and pieces about it. For starters, it will retain heroes, abilities and the cartoonish look of the main Paladins game. It will also involve the classic battle royale elements of looting weapons and armor. However, as PCGamesN explains, there will also be the option to break down anything you find into "shards." Those shards can then be converted and forged into new items and abilities to augment your character with.

The weapons and abilities you forge will be much more powerful than what you find, but doing so takes time and the use of specific "forge" locations. That means there will be a lot of competition and combat around these areas and considering it can take up to two minutes to manufacture your new item, there's a good chance you'll die trying. And then what happens to your new item? Someone else can grab it.

The map the game takes place on is an island much like other battle royale games, but this one has specific biomes, such as a snowy landscape, a forest, a tropical jungle, a desert "badlands" and a sanctuary city location.

The game mode is currently in closed-alpha testing, but new invites are going out all the time and new testers will be asked to sign up soon.
