Overwatch now has over 25 million players

Overwatch showed early promise when it was first released in 2016, drawing in over 10 million players in the first month alone. However it hasn't stopped growing in popularity since then and the latest stats from Blizzard suggest that the game now has over 25 million active players, which is a monumental achievement.

Overwatch is a competitive, team and class-based shooter, featuring colorful characters, settings and effects that blend various aspects of other games like Team Fortress 2, with League of Legends and SMITE, to create a MOBA-inspired shooter with a heavy focus on objectives, abilities and unique characters.

It's lead to the game becoming one of the most popular in the world. Indeed if true, these figures from Blizzard suggest that Overwatch is one of the top few games ever released, beating out most MMOs and even edging close to the figures of titans of the industry like League of Legends.

Even more impressively, Overwatch is a premium, paid-for title, so cannot even rely on free to play try-outs from gamers. They have to pay up front for the privilege - save for the odd free gaming weekend.

While Overwatch has no doubt made Blizzard a lot of money, it should be noted that it was salvaged from the remains of Titan, the MMO that it had in the works for the best part of a decade, so it's hard to know how profitable it might actually be.
