Original Total Annihilation makes it to Steam, GoG

Getting monstrous numbers of units on screen at once was always a big aim of strategy game developers of old, so when Total Annihilation came along, it changed the game. That was a long time ago and there have been sequels and recreations and homages to that title released ever since, but now you can have a go on that classic RTS title yourself, through Steam or GoG.

Priced at just $3.50 in the ongoing pre-Christmas sale, Total Annihilation is a faithfully supported version of the original Chris Taylor classic title. Don't expect it to be flawless, look fantastic or perhaps even play as well you may remember, but it is the original game in all its pixellated glory .

If you want a little more than the base version of the game though, then consider the Total Annihilation Commander Pack on GoG, which priced at $10, comes with the base game, both of its official expansion packs and all of the little extras that GoG always includes: the manual, the official soundtrack in high-quality files and a map editor, so that you can and your friends can go head to head on a level of your creation.

I was never a big fan of the Total Annihilation inspired games that came after it like Supreme Commander, but I can appreciate it for the epic undertaking it was and what an impact it had on the industry.

Were you a big fan back in the day?
