Nvidia's indie ray tracing demos show how cool real time light can be

Nvidia might have sold its RTX generation of graphics cards on the back of real time ray tracing, but the games to make that a must-have feature in your next graphics cards haven't really materialized yet. There have been some that support it, but none have been must plays, nor really used the feature to dramatically change gameplay. That's very different from the indie games that Nvidia showcased during a recent DXR demonstration, where we saw a number of games that could really change game lighting forever.

Attack from Outer Space is a gorgeous faux movie set game, that has you stomping around the streets as a robot, with gorgeous real-time lighting for its laser, ray traced reflections on its mechanical body, and nearby cars. Download it here and try it out for yourself.

Diode is much more of your typical third-person game, with a souls-like feel to it. It too has beautiful reflections and detailed, real time shadows that really bring the future-steampunk world to life.

Download it from its itch.io page here.

The best looking tech demo of the lot though, is Opus Visual's truck simulator. It shows what a true, next-generation truck simulator might look like, with some near, true-to-life reflections. It's stunning.
