Nvidia promises 50 percent FPS uplift with DLSS in Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter: World has a big expansion coming later this year (September on consoles, Holidays for PC) called Iceborne, which will bring with it heaps of new content, including new quests, weapons, maps, and monsters. But before that, Capcom has a number of cool updates to enjoy, one of which is the new DLSS inclusion in the base game, which gives those with Nvidia's new RTX graphics cards the option to increase their FPS by a huge margin whilst enjoying the same visual quality as before.

DLSS, or deep learning super sampling, lets you run a game at a lower resolution than it appears, using AI to create a version of the game that looks closer to higher resolutions (say, 4K) without the performance overhead. As WCCFTech highlights, using a 2080 Ti with DLSS enabled saw an increase of 53 percent, giving a frame rate of 72 FPS on average. An RTX 2080 scored even better, leading to nearly 55 FPS and an overall increase of 58 percent performance.

Even the RTX 2060 can now play MHW at 4K with DLSS, delivering a near 40 FPS average with the new tech enabled.

If you don't like the sharpness that DLSS adds to the game though, you can do something about that. Nvidia gamers will find a new "Sharpness" slider in the game menu, which lets them dial up and down the sharpening effect that DLSS has. That might work well with the in-game anti-aliasing effect for an overall improved visual look.

You will need an RTX card with the onboard Tensor cores to take advantage of this new feature. If you're looking to buy one of those, we can recommend the RTX 2060 Super. It'd be a perfect companion for this game and not too expensive either. The RTX 2070 Super is fantastic, but at $500, a little on the pricey side.
