Nokia Cuts N-Gage Games Target

Nokia's N-Gage gaming platform has been dealt a blow by the company's announcement that its target to launch 50 to 100 new games by the end of the year is no longer feasable. Instead, the Finnish mobile phone giant has suggested a more modest target of 40 games available by the Christmas 2004 season.

For Nokia some form of success in the gaming market has become a necessity as the company is seeing its mobile phone dominance diminishing. Unfortunately for Nokia the loss of market share to rivals was not helped by a poor launch of the original N-Gage game deck which failed to make an impact in the gaming world. Nokia has listed the handheld's small screen and the odd way of changing game cartridges as the main reasons behind the failure and ultimately behind the necessary revision of the title target.

The new N-Gage QD addresses most of those issues and will retail at a much cheaper price with Nokia claiming it will deliver the goods making the company a strong player in the handheld market.
