Nintendo's Fire Emblem Mobile Game Lets You Buy Heroes For Real Money

The latest Nintendo Direct broadcast shed some light on the company's next mobile game: Fire Emblem Heroes.

Fire Emblem Heroes is a tactical RPG game that revolves around collecting and upgrading heroes to win turn-based battles. The game has its own brand new storyline and highly artistic graphics with a distinct Japanese style.

The game is free-to-play but players have the ability to purchase random hero draws for real money. This is quite a departure from the monetization models used Nintendo used so far. The recently released Super Mario Run can be fully unlocked for a onetime $10 fee and last year's Miitomo allowed players to pay real money for cosmetic items only. It looks like Nintendo is using its first few mobile games to experiment with different monetization models.

Fire Emblem Heroes will be released on Android on February 2nd, 2017 with an iOS version to follow later.
