Nintendo Switch limited pre-orders available Friday

This Friday, January 13, will see the Nintendo Switch makes its non-trailer debut at an event in Tokyo, before being followed up by hands-on, press-only events in London and New York later in the day.

While general consumers won't be able to have a play on the new portable/home console though, they will be able to pre-order one in limited numbers. We're told that the Nintendo of America flagship Nintendo store in New York will be able to take the pre-orders from 9AM, but only while stocks last.

It's not clear if you will be able to pre-order one with your usual store, or if it will be through this particular Nintendo store only, but it seems from Nintendo's wording that the stock really will be rather limited. Whether that's to help increase demand, or simply because two months out from the console's launch, Nintendo doesn't have much finalised stock yet.

Of course pre-ordering anything before really knowing what it can do is a dangerous proposition. While scalpers will likely be as enamoured with this event as consumers are, if you want to hold of a little there will be some public events where the Switch will be playable, following the 15th.

Tomorrow however will be our first real look at the console and what it's capable of. We'll know its launch line up of games, we'll know how it performs when disconnected from its base station and what its feature list is like.
