Nintendo And Sony Sued Over Patent Infringement

Pennsylvania based company, Copper Innovations Group filed a suit in United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against both Nintendo and Sony, alleging that both the WiiMote and Sixaxis controllers infringe on its patent.

The patent in dispute is for a "Hand Held Computer Input Apparatus and Method" which was filed by Copper Innovations Group in January 1996. The patent covers "a method for connecting devices to a system and sorting their inputs by means of hardware identification numbers tied to each transmission".

Microsoft was not mentioned in the lawsuit although they are supposed to be "infringing" the patent as much as Nintendo and Sony do.

Nintendo and Sony did not respond to the lawsuit yet.
