New SMITE trailer sets stage for World Championships

If games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends and just about any Final Fantasy title have taught us anything, it's that you have to have cinematics to make your game look cool, but they don't necessarily have to represent gameplay in any meaningful way. Still, they're often exciting to watch, which is exactly what you could say about the new cinematic to celebrate the upcoming SMITE World Championships, which have a $2.5 million prize pool, despite the game being less than a year old.

Set to take place this weekend, between the 9th and 11th January, SMITE's top teams from each of the main regions (North and South America, Europe and China) will go head to head to see who's the best. The top team will walk away with over a million dollars, while last place will still net themselves $30,000.

, as buying a ticket to the live event in person or online will add a few more dollars to the total. Thanks to crowd funding, it's one of the biggest prize pools in eSports history, even though the game is relatively young.

It shows promise for sure and manages to stand out from the crowd of other MOBAs with its unique perspective and mythology based champions.

What do you guys think of SMITE? Is it worth checking out for MOBA veterans and noobs alike?
