NBA 2K18 Wants you to 'Run the Neighborhood'

A new part of career mode in the upcoming NBA 2K18 will charge you with bringing your basketball skills to the streets. In "Run the Neighborhood," there's are no huge crowds, no referee and barely a court as you might imagine it. As part of the game's story mode, you'll start your career on the mean streets battling other neighborhood ballers as you hone your skills ready for the big leagues.

Borrowing a lot from GTA titles, NBA 2K18 will also introduce a number of RPG elements to the game. You'll be able to go and buy new clothes, get a hair cut, change your sneakers, workout and play minigames that help improve your skills over time. All of it contributes to your characters stats as you level them up and make your way to the NBA itself.

All the while you'll be interacting with characters from various different backgrounds, some looking to help you on your journey, others not. There are achievements to unlock, badges to earn, skills to develop, all in the name of becoming the best.

But as the trailer suggests, before you can become the best in the pro-game, you need Run the Neighborhood and make sure you're the best that ever walked the streets. Or rode down them. that's right, you can get a bike too, though it's not clear whether that'll be an unlock you get later on, or one you can expect right from the get go.

Perhaps it'll be a story unlock.

What do you guys think of the way sports games like this are becoming more story-driven?
