More on the Waiting Game

Take Two has announced that it incurred a 50.2 million dollar loss in Q2 of this year but the company still seems to be backing a "winner" as it promised 3D Realms USD 500,000 if it delivers Duke Nukem Forever before December 31st 2006.

Take Two's earnings announcement makes no mention of the game but a 10-Q filing the company issued to the Security and Exchange Commission confirms that new negotiations between Take 2 Games and 3D Realms, regarding DNF, took place this March. The result was a change in the initial arrangement which called for a USD 6 million payment to the Texas based developer for the game. 3D Realms will, instead, receive just over USD 4,000 once the game is ready although we are certain that there is more to that deal.

The USD 500,000 bonus however, is unlikely to change current plans by 3D Realms, a company that has been toiling over DNF since 1997. Since there was no mention of the game during E3 2006 and 3D Realms is sticking to its When It's Done quote, we can only assume that the game will surface at some point in 2007. Duke Nukem Forever will be released for PC with an XBox 360 version rumored to be in development too.
