League of Legends lore cemented in official map

Remember League of Legends? The king of the MOBAs may not quite be the most popular game in the world any more, but it's still enjoyed by 10s of millions of gamers the world over. One aspect of the game that few have ever cared too much about is the lore, but that's something Riot and Tencent are keen to continue to expand and have done so, with a brand new map of the game world.

The world of League of Legends is called Runeterra and now with its topography cemented in a piece of digital parchment, you can now see what the makeup of the world is actually like.

It's made up of three main continents and a few smaller islands, with different environments encompassing mountain ranges, temperate lands, marshlands, and deserts. There are cities and rivers, mountains and seas and now you can explore them yourself using the new interactive map.

There are nine major cities listed in the world, each with their own collection of resident heroes that you can look into. There is artwork for each major location, showing towering cities and structures, strange creatures and expansive backdrops of beautiful vistas.

Clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into crafting the world of League of Legends, which, although not impactful to the game in any meaningful way, perhaps offers a thematic context for gamers who are interested in just why they are battling over those same lanes again and again as they climb the ranks.
