John Romero's spiritual Doom sequel has been delayed until April

If you were waiting to play some new megawad shooter action from original Doom creator, John Romero this month, we have some bad news. It's been delayed. The good news is that it's not for long, with the spiritual successor to Ultimate Doom's fourth episode, known as Sigil, set to release in April instead.

This megawad (a collection of Doom levels rivalling a full game in size) will be freely available when it is released (now in April) and will contain nine single-player and nine death match levels. You'd need to own the original copy of Doom to play it, but acquiring that these days is hardly difficult. Sigil starts where players left off at the end of the fourth episode of Doom and takes the story onwards in new directions.

Romero has said that he's incredibly proud of Sigil, especially when it comes to the artwork and design of the levels. He thinks it contains some of the best looking and most fun rooms he's ever created.

It's certainly ambitious, with more advanced lighting effects, larger open areas with challenging arrays of enemies, an enhanced soundtrack, and a lot more.

There are two limited editions physical copies of the game to pick from too, if you'd like a more complete Sigil experience.
