We all know that the Japanese love wacky non violent games such as My Pet Shop, Nintendogs and perhaps LittleBigPlanet. The peaceful and creative gamers in Japan should prefer those games to violent games such as GTA: IV, right? Wrong!

LittleBigPlanet and GTA: IV launched together this week in Japan, but Sony's creative masterpiece didn't even come close to Rockstar's violent sandbox game. Selling only 52,000 copies, LittleBigPlanet sales were less than half GTA: IV's Playstation 3 game sales of 133,000 units. The Xbox 360 version of GTA: IV also managed to move out another 34,000 copies.

In fact, GTA: IV is doing even better than Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One, a Nintendo DS RPG that Japanese gamers dig. Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One sold 80,000 units during the same week.
