HP Omen 16 and 17 are first laptops with Radeon RX 6000M GPUs

Gaming on a laptop in 2021 is not only a versatile way to play because of the powerful new-generation GPUs from Nvidia and AMD, but because getting a desktop graphics card at anything close to a fair price is almost impossible. Helping to make your laptop gaming dreams a reality, the new HP Omen 16 and 17 gaming laptops have now launched with AMD's RX 6000M graphics under the hood, making them the first laptops to do so.

The HP Omen 16 comes in both Intel and AMD versions, packing up to an eight core Tiger Lake-H Core i7-11800H, or an eight core AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 5900HX. GPU options aren't quire nailed down just yet, with the AMD version having a choice of "RX 6000 series mobile graphics", so how far up the scale that will go remains to be seen. On the Intel system, you'll have a choice of up to an Nvidia RTX 3070 mobile (not a Max-Q or Max-P version, however), so we'd expect to see at least an RX 6700 equivalent in the AMD system.

The larger Omen 17 will have up to an RTX 3080 mobile, so we may see an RX 6800 on the AMD side of things.

Elsewhere in the build, whether you pick Intel or AMD, you'll have up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory, up to a terabyte of NVMe storage, and a 16.1-inch 1440p IPS display with a 165Hz refresh rate. The 17-inch version has a slightly lower 144Hz refresh rate.

HP Omen 16 will likely launch in June on the HP online store and Best Buy for $1,049.99. The HP Omen 17 is also expected to be debut sometime in June for $1,369.99 at online retailers.
