Night Dive Studios is a big fan of nostalgia, but it's also a fan of great games from the past that get a bit harder to play as time goes on, as operating system compatibility disappears and the visuals become a little harder to stomach on modern hardware. That's why it's made a number of titles that were previously hard to get running available on platforms like GoG and through its own store.

Games like Noctropolis, I have no mouth and I must scream, Tex Murphy, System Shock 2 and now it turns out it's working on a System Shock re-release too. Better than that however, it's updating it, improving textures and the user interface. Most obvious of all is that menus have been pulled back behind additional prompts and buttons, clearing up the screen so that there is more of it to view. Players now no longer have to look around the world through a window within a window.

Classic games did love giant UIs.

Other than the screenshots and a bit of concept art Night Dive is staying quite tight-lipped about how far the game is along, so we'll need to just wait and see for now, but the idea of rebooting System Shock is rather exciting.

Are there any older games you'd like to see Night Dive take on?
