Hacker Who Took Down PSN And Xbox LIVE Gets A Slap On The Wrist

A Lizard Squad hacking group member has been convicted in charges related to the famous attack which took down PlayStation Network and Xbox Live last holiday.

Julius Kivimäki (aka "Ryan" and "Zeekill") was found guilty by a Finnish court in 50,700 charges related to various computer crimes, including data breaches, telecommunication-based harassment and swiping credit card data.

Somehow, all those convictions resulted only in a suspended 2-year prison sentence and an order to help fight cybercrime. That's about 20 minutes of suspended jail time per offense.

Needless to say, a lot of people are voicing their concern that this is a trivial penalty. On the other hand, Kivimäki and his mates did no physical or monetary damage beyond a temporary service disruption. They did not hack the service to steal games, industry secrets or user data.
