Ark: Survival Evolved has offered a unique gameplay experience since it released earlier this year. It was full of dinosaurs and creatures from our planet's history, letting players rustle themselves up a brood of dodos, tame a triceratops or even go into battle with raptor pals like you're in the latest Jurassic World movie.
But most of the animals our homo-sapien player characters have had to deal with so far have been dinosaur-like. Not so with the latest patch.
In this one, the developers have brought in the giant ape creature, Gigantopithecus, a 10ft tall hulking gorilla-like animal that lived between nine million and a hundred thousand years ago in the region of China, India and Vietnam. Not much is known about it in the real world, as only teeth and a few other bones have been found, but in game, we know all about it.
The developers have said that the gentle giant should be quite passive and friendly for the most part, but it's understandably monstrously strong and capable of doing great damage if provoked.
If you managed to tame one or three however, you'll have quite the army. They can even be equipped with helmets for added protection - like a three metre tall monster ape needs it.
