A Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie is in the works

A live-action movie of Fullmetal Alchemist is in the works, bringing Amestris, Xing, Ishval, the Elric Brothers, Mustang, Hawkeye, Havok, Marcoh, the Amstrongs, Scar and all the myriad of other important characters in the world of FMA to the big screen for the first time.

The big news surrounding the film though, is that all of the actors playing key characters will be played by Japanese actors.

"I want to depict something that follows the original work as much as possible," the movie’s director Fumihiko Sori told Kotaku. "The cast is entirely Japanese, but the setting is Europe. However, their race and nationality isn’t expressed in a specific form."

As much as this might be faithful to the source material though, you have to wonder about the acting talent behind the characters. Edward Elric is set to be played by Japanese boy band member Ryosuke Yamada. He does have some experience playing in TV movies, but fortunately more experienced professionals will be taking on other roles.

Roy Mustang will be played by Dean Fujioka while Winry Rockbell will be played by Tsuobasa Honda.

What has some people concerned is that with an all Japanese cast, many of the more clearly Western characters will not be properly presented.

How do you feel about an FMA movie with a full Japanese cast?
