Far Cry 5 at 4K Ultra settings will tax even the most powerful PCs

The various requirements to run the upcoming Far Cry 5 at different settings have now been revealed by Ubisoft, giving everyone the chance to figure out where on the scale their system will find itself. You'll need a pretty hefty system if you plan to go much beyond the recommended settings and indeed if you want to run the game flat out at 60FPS with all settings at Ultra with 4K resolution, you're going to need an absolute monster.

None of this is a surprise of course. Far Cry 5 is the latest AAA title to push the boundaries of what visuals are like in a top-tier game, but it doesn't mean that our systems don't sweat a little at the thought of trying to run it. Fortunately, Far Cry 5 is said to have a whole host of visual elements you can tweak to get the game playing just how you like it, whether the most important thing is performance or aesthetics.

If you want to run the game at its minimum requirements, you'll need the following:

Minimum requirements (720p / low settings)

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.1 GHz or AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or AMD R9 270 (2GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 8GB

Not so bad right? Sure, but we're just getting started:

Recommended requirements (1080p / 60fps / high settings)

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.2 GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD R9 290X (4GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 8GB

The recommended specifications hit that base-line VR level of graphics and CPU requirements, so hardly a slouch, but we're still looking at several-year-old hardware here. When you stretch things to 4K though, that's when Far Cry 5 really gets demanding.

4K requirements (30fps / high settings)

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit version only)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X @ 3.6 GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD RX Vega 56 (8GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 16GB

Think your system can take that? What about this?

4K requirements (60fps / high or ultra settings)

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit version only)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.0 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 1700X @ 3.4 GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI or AMD RX Vega 56 CFX (8GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 16GB

It's pretty safe to say only a handful of people will be playing Far Cry 5 at these sort of settings at launch. Are any of you among that select few?
