FaceBook Game Pressured Into Remove Stabbing

The developers of SuperPoke were forced to removed the ability to virtually stab your friends from the popular FaceBook application.

While it lasted, users who got stabbed received messages telling them that they have been "shanked", a word derived from "Shank" which is the street slang of knife.

The option was removed due to protests from anti-knife campaigners, Urban Concepts and other family members of knife crime victims.

SuperPoke also includes the ability to punch, kick, karate chop, bitch slap, bodyslam, headbutt, slap, smack, sonic boom, spank, spit, teabag and yank on but apparently, those aren't as offending as stabbing/shanking.
