EA Takes Down Ultima IV Fan Remakes

EA Takes Down Ultima IV Fan Remakes

For the first time since fans started sharing Ultima IV remakes in 2007, EA sent cease and desist letters to fan sites asking them to remove those remakes.

Origin Systems has released the game once in the 90s for free, leading a lot of fans to believe that it is public domain. Ultima IV rights remained with Origin Systems until it was purchased by EA in 1992.

The sudden move by EA might be an indication that EA is working on a new Ultima title.

According to one of the game's fan sites, Ultima Aiera, EA has targeted "straight-up remakes" only as well as two flash-based versions of the game, with no mods being banned till now.
