Dying Light update kills mods

Dying Light update kills mods

If you've been using any of the somewhat hastily released mods for Dying Light, then it may be in your best interest not to patch the game just yet, as the latest update - 1.2.1 - has made it much harder to mod the game.

Specifically, the update has killed one method gamers were using of removing the game's film grain filter. The only official statement on this is in the patch notes, which said the update was designed to "block cheating by changing the game's data files."

While this seems a bit strange considering the single player and cooperative nature of the game, what's even more bizarre is the fact that the developer or publisher - we don't know at the moment - has targeted the original mod-makers' files with DMCA takedown requests.

So even if you want to mod out the film grain effect, you're unlikely to even be able to find a download for it now.

Fortunately there's one here for a different form of the mod that apparently still works. Grab it while you can.

As well as being ridiculous, this takedown and mod blocking is hypocritical too, as the upcoming Hellraid game from the same developer was based on a mod for Dead Island.
