Don't buy Hadean Lands $35 DLC: it's just a PDF document

Interactive Fiction is a genre that's underappreciated in the PC gaming world, but it's got a rabid fanbase that loves to consume all of the strange and wonderful stories that the creators have made for them. Hadean Lands is one such game, but as with many more AAA titles, it's latest DLC release has stirred up a bit of a stink.

DLC controversy is nothing new, but the Hadean Lands content pack is one that takes the biscuit. It doesn't add anything new to the game at all. In-fact, it's just a PDF document that you can print out.

The $35 DLC is a printable certificate that says you pledge not to use any guides, cheats, walkthroughs or anything to complete the game. That's something that people might like, but why charge them $35 for it?

"This DLC pack contains a high-quality certificate saying that YOU, the player, solemnly promise to finish Hadean Lands without looking at any hints or walkthroughs on the Steam forums or anywhere else on the Internet," reads the DLC's description.

"That's all! You print out the certificate, sign it, and hang it on the wall. This is strictly on the honor system. The DLC does not change the behavior of the game at all."

Admittedly the developers do spell it out so people aren't caught out, but it's a bizarre addition.

Would you buy it?
