Discord's free Nitro games are going away forever

Discord has offered free games to its Nitro subscribers for just over a year now, but it's proved a rather lacklustre and unpopular feature with Discord gamers. So much so, in fact, that Discord has announced that it's scrapping the free catalog entirely and will no longer make the games available to anyone in the near future.

"We learned a lot from all of you over the last year," Discord said in a blog post dated September 12, via VentureBeat. "Through your valuable feedback, it became clear that while we and some of you love these games, the truth is the vast majority of Nitro subscribers didn’t play them."

After putting some time into potentially overhauling the feature, Discord has instead decided to ditch it altogether. Starting October 15, all Nitro games will no longer be available to download, no matter how long you've been a subscriber.

But doesn't that de-value the Nitro subscription? The $10 a month fee will remain the same, so Discord will be refocusing its efforts on improving the service elsewhere, now it has the resources and time it previously invested in Nitro games. Moving forward it will introduce new features, starting today, with a new double upload size of 100MB for Nitro subscribers. Nitro boosts will now also get you to level up quicker, specifically dropping from 50 to 20 to make it Level 3.

Other features are promised too, though we'll need to wait and see what they turn out to be.
